How does that apply to scientific things? How does that apply to art? To deeply understand a thing is to be able to make it. Or a model of it, which requires less resources (and less understanding). Good understanding can be achieved by making verbal models: explaining things to others.
If to understand things you build and explain, then it's also how to learn. Maybe someday I will also write here something about memory and knowledge graphs and spaced repetition.
